When done right, Halloween can be the most fun you can have in an evening. When done wrong, you just end up feeling like a fool. I’ve experienced both.

I have a group of friends for whom Halloween is a serious holiday. Attendance is mandatory and having an imaginative costume is vital. I’ve had some real misses...but year after year I’m compelled to try to create the perfect costume.  

Planning can begin as early as the day after Halloween...this does not necessarily guarantee success. Sometimes, an awesome costume idea comes together just hours before a party. Other times, over thinking your design can produce tragic results.

The six words you never, ever want to hear uttered are: “What are you supposed to be?” Ugh...disaster. The stain of these words is intensified if spoken by someone wearing a “sexy” cat costume.  

My friends and I gravitate towards TV & film characters. Mostly the villains [they have the best wardrobes!] I’ve made the mistake of dressing as a character in a movie that had yet to be released...the result you ask?  Blank stares all around...not a glimmer of recognition. That night I learned to anticipate the crowd.  You want to be identifiable and familiar but not so much that there are three of you dressed alike. When that happens, just smile and try to salvage some pride. Better yet....find another party!

Whatever getup I decide on, my priority is to have some fun with it. Sometimes those “home sewn” costumes end up providing all the laughs and being the most memorable... which is why taking lots of pictures is essential. Good, bad or ugly, I’m always glad I documented everyone’s crazy costume that night.

                                       Meet Edward Cullen: he’s an intense guy who loves fast cars, brooding and is capable of making you fall madly in love with him…but can he be trusted?  He’s admitted to being dangerous, a monster. Can you see past his weaknesses and give in to temptation? Be careful...this one bites!

I enjoy spending time in our stores as it gives us the opportunity to interact with customers and get their comments firsthand.

Saturday, while shopping for a new winter coat, I met Leanne from Ottawa, who had driven in to Montreal for a day of plus size shopping.  'Addition Elle is like a candy store' she said, as she perused the Fall and Holiday collections.

A confident plus size woman, Leanne was looking for color and updated fashion.  'I don't want to look like my grandmother' she remarked as we discussed how full figure women have moved from from head to toe black to bright, energetic color.  I was inspired by her choice of a red wool coat, and picked up a purple wool jacket for myself. 

Leanne took a few plus size dresses into the fit room.  The little black dress can move from daytime to evening with a simple change of accessories, great for travel.  She also tried Addition Elle's Vita, the new generation of pull on pants; so comfortable & ideal for those long transatlantic flights.  

I picked up a few sweaters, a cute little Joseph Ribkoff knit skirt and some great feedback from a delightful customer.  All in all a great morning!

Ever since I can remember I’ve been intrigued by anything featuring vampires. I think it started with Count Von Count, Sesame Street’s resident vamp...his debonair look and obsession with numbers had me at once frightened and captivated.

I later moved on to Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Her main character, a charismatic vampire named Lestat who had a weakness for the finer things in life and his victim’s circulatory system. The list goes on...

Lately, there’s a resurgence of books, films and TV programs with prominent vampire characters. Take for instance, a little group of books known collectively as the Twilight saga. Ever heard of it? The story revolves around Edward, the 100+ year old teenager and the object of his affection, the painfully human Bella. Forbidden love, longing and biology class... what’s not to like? Vampires are such seductive creatures, menacing yet so alluring!
 
I think what I love the most is that a whole new generation is discovering the vampire’s appeal. Which is why I’m excited to reveal this little bit of information…so stay with me Twilight fans!

You met Sophie in an earlier blog, (Happy Anniversary St Bruno, April 2009)  when she hosted the 30Th anniversary fashion show at our St Bruno store. 

She moved to our flagship store recently and held her first (of many) Addition Elle Ste. Catherine Street Fall Fashion show yesterday evening.  Kudos to both Sophie, and her amazing team on an extraordinary evening! 

Over 100 loyal and new customers framed the runway as our staff and customers showcased Addition Elle and MXM Fall plus size fashion.   The show started with key pieces from the City collection, and worked through MXM's trendy plus size outfits- with lots of 'oohs and aahs' as the curvy ladies sashayed down the runway.

Our models took the stage wrapped up in Addition Elle Winter coats and jackets.  Beautifully accessorized with warm & cozy scarves, gloves and capes - the women then peeled off the outerwear to uncover a collection of Fall sweaters in a rainbow of warm weather colors.  Purples, Reds and Oatmeal, stripes and argyles, lightweight and bulkier knits all paraded down the runway.  Bonus? Outerwear and sweaters are on sale this week - 25% off. 

Modern yet classic suiting and separates from Michel Antoni took over, with perfectly coordinated wear to work fashion and accessorizing tips. Tweed, plaid, herringbone - luxurious fabrics layered over this season's perfect white shirt, colorful turtlenecks and fashion blouses, adorned with trendy multi chain and chunky necklaces. 

Behind the scenes, the ladies prepared for another designer segment of the fashion show, with help from the Ste. Catherine street team.  Guests were thrilled that the dynamic Simon Chang made a guest appearance, and applauded his exclusive to Addition Elle plus size collection which includes graphic prints, bright colors and his signature trendy jackets and bottoms.

The unique, multi dimensional style of Joseph Ribkoff followed.  A Canadian fashion designer who celebrates the essence of femininity and offers soft yet elegant figure flattering fashion for work and evening wear. 

The 'last dance' included stunning plus size cocktail and evening gowns, and several versions of the little black dress -all show stoppers.  A great way to end the show & start the party as our guests dashed off to the fitting rooms with their preferred outfits and started building their Fall wardrobes. 

Many took advantage of our bra fit experts and found a perfect bra in support (pardon the pun) of Addition Elle's bra promotion during our Breast Cancer fundraiser.
